All the snow reports and webcam links should now all be pointing to something besides a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error :).. I am still working on the weather information for the resorts but that should be working very soon. I am in need of more resort stats for some of the resorts so if you see anything missing in the way of stats or any mistakes please email me rob at addictedtopowder.com... thats it for now.. later... oh ya.. Merry Christmas..
| | Nov 22, 2007 - Posted by Sirius Geek | There is snow in them thar hills. Whistler Blackcomb has opened early and the season appears to be off to a good start. We at Addicted to Powder remain cautiously optimistic. Keep your fingers crossed and think POWDER. With the approach of Mount Cain’s probable opening day of December 8, 2007 we find it appropriate to share the following travel tip. See YOU on the slopes.
Are you planning a trip to Mount Cain and need accommodations? You have to check out the Rugged Mountain Motel (250-281-2280). Within a ten minute drive of the access road this is an excellent alternative to sleeping in your car. Our experience began with a phone call to the motel which went something like this. “Hello, Lucky Logger Pub, how may I help you?”
“Oh. I am sorry. I am trying to reach the Rugged Mountain Motel.”
“One moment, let me change ears,” a brief pause, “Hello, Rugged Mountain Motel how may I help you?”
We checked in at the Woss Vegas store and went to our rooms. We had heard mixed reviews of the facilities. Some were down right frightening. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms. They were spacious and clean with all the amenities you would expect from a decent motel. We deduced that the negative reviews we had been privy to were from people with unrealistic expectations of five star facilities.
A great meal was provided to us at the Lucky Logger Pub when the friendly staff recommended the daily special, roast beef dinner. We were shocked when a logger size plate of delicious food was brought to us complete with a humongous Yorkshire pudding for a very reasonable price. We ate breakfast the next morning in the restaurant at the Woss gas station.
If the price of fuel is making it difficult for you to take your camper on your excursion to the best skiing on Vancouver Island and you don’t need Whistler class accommodations then the Rugged Mountain Motel is for you. Reasonable rates and convenient access to excellent food as well as the mountain itself will make this a great choice. Don’t forget to tell them Addicted to Powder sent you.

Fishing on Vancouver Island is getting really hot. In Port Alberni we have seen a great return of Coho salmon. The large number of Chinook salmon predicted have yet to arrive in the numbers expected. Rumor has it that there has been a large commercial fishery and this may well be the cause. Fishing in the Nitnat has been a gong show with massive crowds lining the pools. Considering the effort it takes to get there if you can go somewhere else you should. With the upcoming rains we should see these issues sort themselves out as fish spread throughout the system and more return. And now for what you’ve all been waiting for………………
THE SKIING NEWS
Mt Washington is offering early bird seasons passes until October 8th. Save 30% off the regular season rate. The annual turkey sale will take place October 5, 6, 7, and 8 at the Mtn Tek Hut as well as the Altitude pro shop. This year night skiing will take place on the Whiskey Jack chair with lighting on the Coaster as well as the terrain park. Cool.
Whistler Blackcomb is offering early bird seasons passes for those of you lucky enough to take advantage for the low, low price of $1400.00. There has been some hardware upgrades but no major visible improvements to the mountains. Next winter should bring the long awaited opening of the Peak to Peak Gondola. Whistler Mountain Ski Club presents the annual turkey sale at the Blackcomb Wizard Base on October 5, 6, 7, and 8.
| | Sep 12, 2007 - Posted by Sirius Geek | Fishing is starting to pick up in the Vancouver Island Rivers. The Somass has seen some really nice cohos as well as the odd spring. These fish have been silver and so clean they still have sea lice on them. It is good to see that sockeyes have been showing up as well because the return this year has been very poor. A recent trip to the Nitnat River has shown fish in the lower system, bears of course are showing up as well. Where is the rain? Fall heralds the eventual return of winter. We are all crossing our fingers for a good season of fun in the pow. |
